Waiting
William (Bill) Fatek is a Navy Veteran who started his Naval career as a junior officer on the USS Tiru SS 416. Upon completion of this tour, he served as a staff duty officer for US and NATO submarine operations for the Mediterranean and then as a Weapons Officer on the USS Andrew Jackson SSSBN 619.
Upon resigning from active duty in 1979, Bill accepted a commission in the Navy Inactive Reserve where he served for an additional 8 years. As a qualified submariner for 50 years, Bill was inducted into the USSVI Holland Club in 2022.
Bill went on to work for several companies supporting integration and installation of submarine weapons systems . Bill retired in 2018 and lives with his wife of 53 years (Ginny). He has two daughters and 7 grandchildren. Bill continued to serve his community through volunteer work as a Boys Baseball and Girls Softball Coach and participation on various town commissions in CT.
This Veteran, who has done so much for his country and communities, now needs our help. He has End-stage kidney disease and relies on a dialysis machine to survive. The wait for a kidney from a deceased donor can take over 5 years. Bill may not survive that wait. A living kidney donor gives Bill the best chance to live out the rest of his life, free from dialysis. Kidney donation is safe for those who are medically cleared. The costs associated with the testing are covered.
Bill is working with an organization called DOVE (Donor Outreach for Veterans). This organization will provide education, mentoring and logistical support to all prospective donors. Please reach out (confidentially) to DOVE to learn more! Click the link below or call (551) 233-1611.
