William “Bill” Crute is a Vietnam Combat Veteran who served for three years in the Army spending only six months in the States before leaving for Vietnam at the age of 18 to work as a cook. It was not long before he was performing field perimeter duties as a guard and was there for a year. He spent his last few years in Germany working in the motor pool and learning how to drive big trucks and jeeps, during his end-of-tour service (ETS).
After his discharge in 1972, Bill took some classes, worked odd jobs and was trying to figure out his life. He became a clerk at an insurance company, then moved to a law office and got into computers for five years. He became a computer operator loading tapes and running printers for four years before moving to Maryland. He became a limousine driver, then a motorcoach driver, until his retirement in 2015 due to his health.
Sadly, Bill’s wife died in 2021 from complications of Covid-19, and he is learning to carry on for his four adult children and four grandchildren. He likes to read (whatever sounds interesting), goes to local sporting events, and is a history buff. Bill has had a battle with diabetes, which played a role in his chronic kidney disease (CKD) and has been on dialysis for over five years and struggles with the loss of appetite. Bill would love to continue to be there for his kids and grandkids and live a life as full as he can! Will you help him by sharing his story and need for a kidney transplant? Bill has enlisted the help of a Veteran's organization called DOVE Transplant which is helping in his outreach to find his life-saving kidney donor. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery.
