STATUS:

Waiting

Richard Greathouse enlisted in the US Marine Corps serving over two years as an 1142 Electrical Equipment Repair Specialist working on generators. His first assignment was at New River Station where he received a shoulder injury, which was exacerbated by carrying heavy equipment while serving in Honduras, eventually being placed on light duty. It was the beginning of the Gulf War, which delayed Richard's being properly treated by an orthopedic doctor and caused him to have some health issues from extended use of pain meds. He was discharged early in 1991, due to medical reasons.

Richard went on to work at a grocery store before becoming an insurance salesman at a few different companies. After that, he landed a job working for the US Postal Service in Athens, OH for 21 years, then on to a smaller office, where unfortunately he was medically retired in 2017. He has battled many serious health issues over the years but has fought like a champion and overcame many of them. Being diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and dealing with dialysis treatments three days a week is his next medical challenge.

Richard and his wife Angela (a special ed teacher) have been married for 32 years, have raised two sons, and a daughter, and have a three-year-old “miracle” grandson. Richard enjoys going fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. Will you help him overcome and win his battle with kidney disease and reliance on dialysis? Will you share his story with others or consider becoming his kidney donor? Richard has so much more life to live, would love to spend more time with his family, and desires to be able to play baseball again!

Richard has enlisted the help of a Veteran's organization called DOVE Transplant which is helping in his outreach to find his life-saving kidney donor. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery.

A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save this Veteran's life! Please click on the link below if you would like to learn more OR call 551-233-1611.
