STATUS:

Received! Deceased Donor 9/18/23

Tony Wells is a 56 year old Veteran who served as a tank mechanic in the Army. He has continued to help Veterans through his employment in the housekeeping department at his local VA Medical Center in Connecticut. Despite having kidney failure and relying on hemodialysis to stay alive, Tony has maintained his full time work schedule.

Tony has a genetic disease called Polycystic Kidney Disease that has permanently damaged his kidneys. Many of his members were also afflicted with this same disease. While he is eligible for a kidney transplant, the wait time for a deceased kidney donor is over 5 years long. He may not survive that wait. He is unable to find a living kidney donor in his family due to the prevalence of kidney disease.

A living kidney donor transplant would give Tony the best chance to live a long life, free from dialysis. Living donation is safe for donors who are medically cleared. The cost of the evaluation is covered by the transplant center. Non medical costs such as travel and lost wages are reimbursed. Please contact DOVE Transplant if you would like to learn more about kidney donation to help Veterans like Tony. Email: Info@dovetransplant.org OR click on the button below. Thank you!
