STATUS:

Received - Deceased Donor

Ron Bartgis is a US Marine Corps Veteran who served over 6 years. He has been married for 31 years to his wife, Paula and is the proud dad of two sons.

Paula describes Ron as the most loving and generous caretaker.
When Paula's father died unexpectedly in 2021 of COVID, Ron refused to leave his side and he promised to take care of his mother-in-law who had cancer.

Despite coping with debilitating symptoms from his kidney disease, Ron is building a room for his mother-in-law to stay while she undergoing medical care.

While Ron likes to keep up a strong front, he has been feeling knocked down by his kidney disease.
For the past year, he has been reliant on a hemodialysis machine many hours, several days per week.
There are only two options of treatment for Ron: Stay on dialysis for the rest of his life OR Receive a kidney transplant.

Kidney transplantation gives Ron the best chance to live long and dialysis free. However, the wait for a kidney from a deceased donor is over 5 years long. Ron may not survive that wait.

Living kidney donation is safe for those who are medically cleared. The medical testing is covered by Ron's insurance.
Kidney donors live completely normal lives with their one kidney and can renew a life with their donated kidney.

Veterans like Ron have sacrificed much for us. What better way to show our gratitude than to give back in their time of need?
