Rodney Simpson served in the US Navy for 8 years starting his military career as Deck Seaman for two years and then becoming an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate and Equipment Specialist for five years. He worked his way up to Topside Petty Officer and oversaw the landing of aircraft on the USS Carl Vinson. The last year of his service in the Navy was spent doing shore duty at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station in New Jersey working with the Seabees.
After his discharge in 2000, Rodney went to school to learn HVAC and found a company with on-the-job training. It did not take him long to become the office manager as well going out to field as needed. From there Rodney worked 13 years for Housing Works in Brooklyn, an organization that helps the homeless and low-income population living with HIV/AIDS or at-risk infection. He started as the Facility Manager and then served as the Director for his last two years there; he had to be medically retired, due to debilitating arthritis.
Rodney and his wife Stephanie have been together for 17 years and have raised 10 adult children, who live all over the country. They have five grandchildren and one on the way. He enjoys fishing in the Atlantic Ocean for a wide variety of fish and still goes bowing. Rodney was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2023 and has only recently started dialysis, keeping him alive until he receives a transplant. We are working to help this 48-year-old husband, father and grandfather get his health back. Will you join our mission to find a kidney for Rodney? Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact in his life and the lives of his family!
Rodney has enlisted the help of a Veteran's organization called DOVE Transplant which is helping in his outreach to find his life-saving kidney donor. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery.
A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save this Veteran's life! Please click on the link below if you would like to learn more OR call (551) 233-1611.
