Waiting
I am a U.S. Navy Veteran, obtaining the rank of HN (E-3). I served at Naval Training Command Newport, RI. While serving as a hospital corpsman, I worked in a variety of duties, including both in-patient and outpatient areas. I was also part of an FMF readiness group and worked in the inpatient drug and alcohol rehab unit. My time in the service was cut short due to a medical issue that led to an early discharge. Not a day goes by that I don’t wish I could be back in the U.S. Navy.
After the Navy, I returned to Northern New England and went to college, obtaining my Fire Science Degree with a dual major in Advanced Emergency Medicine. I worked in the fire service, obtaining the rank of captain in charge of a small rescue company. I supplemented this career by returning to school and obtaining my degree in commercial vehicle operations and logistics. As I worked in this field, I earned my master’s degree in business finance and human resource management. I am currently retired. While working in both career paths, I enjoyed working with and helping the people I met along the way.
I am married to my beautiful wife of 34 years, and we’ve been together for 36. She is my best friend and soulmate. My wife and I have a son (30), a daughter (28), and her twin sister, who passed away at birth. We have five grandchildren, ages 10, 9, 4, 2, and 3 months.
I was diagnosed with kidney failure in November of 2018 and have been on dialysis since that time. Dialysis has been very tough on me, both physically and mentally. I have Stage 5+ kidney failure, and both of my kidneys are non-functioning. Kidney disease and dialysis have also taken a toll on our family, affecting all of us in some way. To add to kidney failure, I am a bilateral below-knee amputee with a partial amputation of my left hand, making my left arm useless from the mid-point down. I am also a two-time stroke survivor and have had a quadruple bypass with aorta repair following a major heart attack in the fall of 2017.
I love being outdoors and enjoy spending time in the woods and hiking. I also love being near the ocean when I can. Unfortunately, kidney disease has taken the wind out of my sails. Will you join DOVE in our mission to find a kidney for me? Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on my life and the life of my family!
Robert has enlisted the help of a Veteran's organization called DOVE Transplant which is helping in his outreach to find his life-saving kidney donor. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery.
