STATUS:
Waiting
My name is Glenn Womack, and I served in the 82nd Airborne in the U.S. Army for four years and deployed to Desert Shield/Storm as part of the advance force moving into Iraq. After my active-duty service, I completed four years of Reserve status with an Intelligence battalion. A few years later, I joined the Texas Army National Guard as an M1 Armor Crewman, then later reclassified as a Cavalry Scout. In the National Guard, I was deployed to Iraq in 2005 and again in 2010 and received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. I retired from the National Guard in 2014 with the rank of E-9 Sergeant Major. My favorite time in the military was when I was First Sergeant of a Cavalry Troop, because I was best able to help other soldiers.
I am currently working at a chemical plant as a Laboratory Operations Leader and have been doing this work for 25 years. I enjoy working in the labs and learning new things. I was part of a team that set up a new lab in Thailand and another new lab in Saudi Arabia, where I lived for three and a half years.
I found out I had kidney disease several years ago and have been fighting it ever since. I have been on dialysis for almost two years. I am married and have five children at home, ages 6, 10, 13, 14, and 17. I also have a 37-year-old son from a previous marriage who works at SpaceX, and one 8-year-old granddaughter. I enjoy going on trips with the family to exciting places, as well as hunting and fishing, but these activities are more difficult nowadays with the need for dialysis. I am still able to work, but it is difficult keeping up with everything going on with the kids. A transplant would be a godsend.
