Waiting
Rich Nilsen is a 64 year old Veteran who served 8 years in the Navy. He was the first in his family born in the United States, and the first in his family to graduate from college. He joined the military to give back to a country that gave him and his family so much. He served in intelligence and law as JAG officer.
Until his kidney disease was diagnosed two years ago, Rich was a multi-sport athlete for most of his life.
He is currently the primary caregiver for his wife, who has advanced Alzheimer's. She has been unable to speak or walk for 6 years.
Veterans like Rich have done so much for their country, their communities, and their families. Let us now step up to help them in their time of need. Rich is on a wait list for a kidney transplant. The wait for a deceased donor may take over 5 years. His best chance is to find a living kidney donor. Kidney donation is safe for donors who are medically cleared. The evaluation is covered by the transplant center. Non medical costs related to travel, lodging, lost income are also covered by organizations such as DOVE.
