Waiting
My name is Michael Purvey, and I am a 37-year-old husband and father. I served 4 years as a 13B Field Artillery Cannon Crewmember in the U.S. Army and was medically discharged from the Army as an E4 Specialist in 2013. I am a combat veteran and was deployed for 12 months to Afghanistan. The camaraderie is the thing I miss the most about serving in the military.
I loved working with my hands in carpentry and still enjoy it, but unfortunately, I am not working as of now due to my health issues. I have known of my kidney disease since 2020 and first learned of it when I experienced gout. I have also been diagnosed with FSGS. I have taken many treatments to slow the progression with little success and am now in the process of getting a fistula in preparation for dialysis. I miss seeing my work completed and others enjoying it; it is what brought me the most joy.
My wife and I have been married for over 15 years, and we have three wonderful daughters: Georgianna, 23; Jada, 17; and Mikeala, 12. We have also had the pleasure of raising our nephew, Dennis, for the last 4 years. The other “members of our family” include two dogs and four chickens!
I still enjoy woodworking and making things with my hands, but keeping busy and enjoying my time in solitude is becoming difficult. My wife and I enjoy traveling, and we look forward to doing more when I receive the gift of a transplant. Our family is very active and outdoorsy, so maybe a trip around the USA would be nice!
