Mark Wientjes is a retired Lt. Colonel in the Army who served 7 years of active duty and 21 years in the reserves. He started his career as an ROTC scholarship recipient and was commissioned in 1974 at the end of the Vietnam War. Assigned to the Corps of Engineers, he was a platoon leader and an Assistant S1 Adjutant. Mark was the Facilities Engineer in Stuttgart, Germany for 3 years and then for Tooele Army Depot in Utah. While in the reserves, he received his master's degree in engineering from the University of Utah. Recalled for Desert Storm, he served at Fort Sam Houston in Texas for 7 months and retired in 2002 as the Battalion Commander for a reserve unit in Texas.
In his civilian life, Mark worked for Texas Instruments for 15 years and then moved over to Dell (later becoming AT&T) for 17 years and retired as a Program Manager in 2022. He and his wife Sally have been married for 39 years and have a son, who unfortunately passed away eight years ago, and a daughter and three wonderful granddaughters who keep him going!
Mark needs a second kidney transplant after his first one began to fail four years ago. Unfortunately, he found himself back on dialysis in 2023. He has a rare blood condition where a rogue protein attacks his kidneys, thankfully he now takes a treatment that keeps it dormant. The fatigue that he faces daily hinders him from being as active and involved in his community and life as he would like. After receiving a new kidney, Mark would love to get back to traveling and playing golf again and be there for his family. Will you help Mark regain his active lifestyle by sharing his story and need for another transplant; might you even consider becoming his living kidney donor?
He has enlisted the help of a Veteran's organization called DOVE Transplant which is helping in his outreach to find his life-saving kidney donor. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery.
A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save this Veteran's life! Please click on the link below if you would like to learn more OR call (551) 233-1611.
