Waiting
My name is Kenneth Roosa, and I served in the USMC from 1983-87 as a 7312/7324 Air Traffic Controller. I was stationed at MCAS Cherry Point, NC, then attended ATC school at NAS Memphis for 14 weeks. I was permanently medically retired in 1990 after being diagnosed with IGA Nephropathy (kidney disease). I enjoyed all aspects of my time in the Marine Corps and would have preferred to stay on active duty, but the Navy doctors objected.
I was hired at basically the same place as a civilian controller in March 1987. This was great since I got to work with mostly the same people and train the new Marines just out of school. I had to leave permanently in 2002 when I had to start dialysis and couldn’t pass the required physical exam. I have been married to my wife, Rosie, for 34 years. She has been a godsend, helping me with my dialysis treatments at home. We have 3 boys and 2 grandsons; the oldest lives in Minnesota, one in New Hampshire, and one locally.
I have been on dialysis two different times: from 2001-2006, and from 2021 until now. I initially did peritoneal dialysis but switched to home hemodialysis in 2022. I have been in ESRD now for 23 years and have limitations, mostly physical, but we do the best we can. I would like to travel more if I get another transplant. I enjoy anything outdoors: hiking, fishing, and hunting are my pastimes. My wife and I like cruising when we can.
