Waiting

Jose Aguilar is a 22-year Army veteran who served from 1988 to 2004 as a 19 Delta Cavalry Scout. He had two tours in Korea, was part of Desert Storm, and was deployed to Bosnia. Upon enlisting in the military, Jose wanted to ensure that his family had a good and stable life. For the first six years of his military service, he left his wife and three children in Southern California and reported to each duty station. This allowed him to provide stability for his children, as they were all still very young. After being separated from his family for so long, he decided it was time for them to join him, so he brought them to Fort Hood, Texas, for the remainder of his military career.

With all his children having graduated from high school by 2004, Jose decided it was time for him to retire. This brought him back to his first duty station in Fairbanks, Alaska, leaving his two eldest kids in Texas and bringing his youngest daughter and wife with him. Jose continued to work through the FRA as a stocker. He lived in Fairbanks until 2019, when he and his wife decided to join their kids in Texas.

Jose’s health journey started in February 2000, when he took a bad fall during his usual daily walk around the neighborhood. A fall caused by dehydration then led to multiple health issues, including the beginning of his kidney disease.
