David Mabee is a self-described Indiana "farm boy" who enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1971 to 1979 during the Vietnam War. His specialty was aviation electrician's mate, and he learned his trade while in school at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida. Although he was active duty, David did not see combat, but he really enjoyed the challenges of working on Marine helicopters.

After his honorable discharge, David continued to work in aviation and eventually went to work for the Department of Defense, starting in quality assurance and eventually moving into contract pricing. He was able to leverage his mechanical and electrical knowledge, which he learned as a Marine, to help negotiate contract prices. During Operation Desert Storm, David worked with the Army in Logistics; this was particularly meaningful because he was able to help support the troops overseas. He retired from federal employment with 35 years of government service.

David and his wonderful wife have been married for 42 years, and they have two daughters and a son. They are looking forward to having grandchildren someday! Nothing gives him more pleasure than spending time with his family. David has battled kidney cancer, which resulted in his kidneys failing and his need for dialysis for survival. Before dialysis, he was an avid bicycle rider, taking long-distance rides with friends, and volunteered with a veteran-run organization called Team Rubicon, helping with disaster relief. David hopes to get back to doing both!

Will you join DOVE in our mission to find a kidney for David? Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!

David has enlisted the help of a Veteran's organization called DOVE Transplant which is helping in his outreach to find his life-saving kidney donor. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery.
