My name is Darryl Hunter. After high school graduation, I attended Ivy Tech Community College for three years and received my computer programming degree. I then cared for my ailing grandmother for a year before I joined the US Navy as an E-3. I worked in the engine and boiler room specializing in elevators and hydraulics. I became a lock leader for shipboard firefighting and retired in December 2008 as a Navy Machinist Mate Chief E-7 after 24 years of service.
In my civilian career, I worked for Advanced Boiler Company Service as an Engineering Scheduler for ten years before retiring in 2024 due to medical issues. I am blessed with two daughters, two sons, and four grandchildren. I also have my new best friend, Mini, my dog who is five months old.
Growing up, I enjoyed playing sports, so in high school I wrestled and ran track. After retiring from the Navy in 2008, I went back to my high school and became an assistant wrestling coach. I enjoy playing cards, shooting darts, and working at my AMVETS Post 6 with other military personnel, socializing about our military days.
In 2022, I went for a full physical and my blood test showed some issues. I was already battling high blood pressure, so they started monitoring me. By January 2024, things became worse, and I eventually needed to go on dialysis. It tires me out and limits me from being able to travel to Alabama to be with family, which is something I really enjoy.
