STATUS:

Waiting

Conrad Hinkson was drafted in 1970 into the Army and was trained as a Teletypewriter Technician. His non-combat assignments included tours in Germany, Europe, the Netherlands, and many bases in the U.S. Conrad was sent to the Royal Airforce Radio School in England and the NATO Communications School in Italy. At these schools, he learned to operate and repair the cryptographic equipment used by NATO forces. Conrad retired in 1991 as a Staff Sergeant after 20 years of service and enjoyed his duty assignments at the Communication Center, rarely going out to the field.

Before being drafted, Conrad worked as a machinist in Brooklyn, NY. After retiring from the Army, he worked in the hardware department at Sears and eventually got a job with the Army Recreation Machine Program as an Electronic Technician, repairing video games. Conrad was also responsible for providing free Wi-Fi for the troops in the barracks, and he found it very satisfying to see the machines being utilized by the troops.

Conrad and his wife have a blended family. Their son is currently serving in the Air Force as the base commander at Volkel Air Base in the Netherlands, and their daughter has given them two wonderful grandchildren! Conrad’s kidneys began to decline ten years ago, and in 2022, he needed to start dialysis. It is doing its job, but at times he has no energy to do anything.

Conrad enjoys traveling, meeting people, being outdoors, and visiting museums and parks. He builds birdhouses, tends his citrus trees, likes listening to music and dancing, and tries to live a full life as best he can. Will you join us in our mission to find a kidney for Conrad? Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life and the life of his family!

Conrad has enlisted the help of a Veteran's organization called DOVE Transplant which is helping in his outreach to find his life-saving kidney donor. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery.
