My name is Carlos Salazar and am one of twelve siblings. I was born into a ranching family that dates back into the early 1600s. I still ranch and farm on a 2300 acre cow-calf operation with my siblings. I have been married for 50 years. My wife and I have two grown sons and 11 grandchildren. I enjoyed playing sports and enjoy watching sports on TV. I love being around animals. I recently turned 75 and still ride horses. I have been an active participant of my church, my community, and a member of numerous agricultural organizations promoting agricultural stewardship.
I was drafted into the US Army in 1972, did my boot camp in Ft. Polk, Louisiana. Advanced Infantry Training in Ft. Lee, Virgina and served 18 months in Bad Kreuznach, Germany as a Petroleum Specialist (E-4) with the 8TH Infantry Division.
I completed my Degree under the GI Bill and graduated from New Mexico State University. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Science. Retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs after 34 years of service as a Range, Soils and Irrigation Specialist.
I was diagnosed with Hemochromatosis about 10 years ago and Kidney Disease Stage IV about 5 years ago. I am currently in need of a kidney transplant. I have Amyloidosis (ALECT 2). My two sons and my youngest brother were tested, but were not a match.
