Al Dunaway is a proud Navy Veteran who enlisted at age 18 and served 9 years. Al served 2 tours in Vietnam on Carrier and Destroyers and was part of the search and rescue teams that pulled out pilots who were shot down in North Vietnam. Once a civilian, Al worked in a multitude of jobs - for nuclear plant assemblies, as a water truck driver in the Grand Canyon as a Mechanic.
Now retired, Al continues to help his country, his community and fellow military. He is a 40 year honorary life member of the American Legion Post 42, Grand Canyon, Arizona Post adjutant and service officer.
Additionally, he served 4 years as a post Commander and is a life member of VFW Post 12126. He continues to serve as a post judge advocate, post trustee, honor guard commander.
He is a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America. He is also a life member of Forty and Eight Member Sons of the American Legion and 3 years state Vice Commander. Al also works closely with an organization called "For Veterans Sake" which helps service members with PTSD heal with the help of specially trained service dogs.
Al recently has been diagnosed with kidney failure. He now relies on a machine to stay alive. His doctors have informed him he is a good candidate for a kidney transplant, but is only eligible if he is able to find a living kidney donor.
Al has so many years left to live and so much more he would like to do to support Veterans causes.
