Agapito “Pete” Maldonado worked as a heavy machine operator and concrete inspector before deciding, at the age of 25, to enlist in the US Air Force. He served ten years working with the KC-135 Stratotanker, an aerial refueling aircraft, and became a crew chief before being promoted to an instructor, teaching others how to do the job. Pete loved traveling to many places, including Hawaii, Alaska, Thailand, Australia, and Spain.

After his discharge, Pete worked at the Denver airport in the ramp and air traffic control center. After that, he worked a variety of different jobs: a driver for a concrete company, then began training drivers; at a water utility company; helped his father in the family butchering business; and worked on a large ranch as a driver, then as a bartender in the lodge.

Pete has a wonderful family that consists of a son and a daughter, a set of twin granddaughters, and an incredibly supportive girlfriend, Terri. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney failure in 2020 and has been reliant on dialysis to keep him alive. Pete loves being in the mountains hiking and camping, fixing vehicles, and riding his motorcycle. He is trying to stay active, but unfortunately, he was medically retired in 2021 due to his kidney issues. Your support, whether through spreading the word on social media or considering becoming a donor, can make a profound impact on his life!

Pete has enlisted the help of a Veteran's organization called DOVE Transplant which is helping in his outreach to find his life-saving kidney donor. DOVE will assist all prospective donors throughout the process and make sure they do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses related to the evaluation or surgery.

A healthy person can live a normal life with one kidney and save this Veteran's life! Please click on the link below if you would like to learn more OR call (551) 233-1611.
