Tactical Fitness Austin is proud to announce that it will be hosting a D-Day Ruck on June 6th supporting DOVE (Donor Outreach for Veterans). DOVE acts as the Veterans' donor champion by identifying, screening, and educating prospective donors and matching them to Veterans in need, allowing potential donors to personalize their life-saving gift through a direct donation to Veterans.
The inspiration for the event came, as one of Tactical Fitness’ own, Jon Wayne Taylor, an instructor, and a Combat Vet/Medic donated his kidney in October 2020 at St. David's Medical Center in Austin, Texas. This selfless act set up a chain of transplants that ultimately led to fellow Veteran Chief Bennie undergoing a transplant in April 2021 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
Ron Grobman Founder of Tactical Fitness Austin said: “Jon Wayne Taylor's sacrifice exemplifies the spirit of giving back to fellow veterans. Tactical Fitness Austin is honored to support DOVE in their mission to connect donors with Veterans in need. We hosted an event last year and were overwhelmed by the support we received from both our students and the wider community in Austin. This year we hope to get even more people involved!”
The event will be held on June 6th, 2023, in Austin, Texas where participants will gather to complete the ruck to raise awareness and funds for DOVE. All proceeds from the event will go directly to DOVE to support its mission. If you are not able to attend the event in-person, you can participate remotely or simply donate. Sharyn Kreitzer, Founder, and Executive Director of DOVE said “In 2022 we had a goal of transplanting 22 Veterans (22 for 2022) We exceeded that goal and transplanted 25 Veterans. We are about to schedule our 29th transplant and have 2 more scheduled for June.
The upcoming ruck event not only raises awareness and funds for our organization, but it also highlights the selfless act of donation and the impact it can have on the lives of Veterans.”
